Nina Simone

Nina Simone is a lot like Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino. They both use their music to spread a political message for everyone to hear. Nina was able to shift people's mindset into taking action about the political issues within the country. This was extremely important because no one had the courage to speak out against the oppression. Nevertheless, Simone spoke out forcefully with her lyrics and soul to raise the consciousness of listeners—this made a major impact on Black Nationalism and the Black Power Movement because she created a focus towards what she and her community were candid about. Donald Glover does the same by putting messages within his music using even music videos which display imagery for the audience. This is important because it allows a bigger input for the message he is trying to share.

Nina Simone grew up in North Carolina where she lived in a cramped home with her family. Her house was full of music and she grew up along with it like a sibling. She was always neglected because her family was colored. However, she had an unusual talent and love for music. Eventually, Nina realized she can use her talent as a form of protest to get her message out to others. This worked as she then gained recognition and had a powerful voice through her music a lot like Childish Gambino.
